The team at Ainslie Street Dental Centre understands, and we're here to ease any anxiety felt by patients who may be nervous about their dental care.
We understand that a trip to the dentist can make some people anxious. Our goal is to alleviate some of that anxiousness so that it doesn't prevent you from receiving regular oral care.
Many people find themselves getting nervous before visiting the dentist. If this is you, please let our reception team know when you book your first visit.
Our caring staff has been helping nervous patients with dental anxiety for years, and will do everything possible to ensure that you feel comfortable throughout your appointment.
At Ainslie Street Dental Centre, we do our best to offer you a friendly, inviting environment for your dental care.
In each of our exam rooms, you can listen to soothing music while you wait. For the majority of our anxious patients, these 'distractions' help them focus on other things and ultimately, make their dental experience less daunting.
Our staff will take the time to explain the details of all dental procedures before they begin, so you will have a thorough understanding of whatever treatment we are recommending. You can feel free to ask as many questions as you want... until you are fully comfortable.
At Ainslie Street Dental Centre, we offer a wide range of sedation options, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas). If you think you might need sedation, we will review all the pros and cons with you.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation: This type of sedation, also known as laughing gas, is administered to help you relax before your procedure. Again, since it does not relieve pain, an anesthetic is also administered.
Oral Sedation: Oral sedatives can be administered the night before or 30 minutes before the appointment depending on the severity of the dental anxiety. Since oral sedatives do not provide pain relief, a local anesthetic is administered. For many anxious patients, oral sedation is enough to calm their anxiety and make them feel less anxious before their dental procedure.
IV Sedation: The sedative is administered into your blood stream and works quickly. With IV dental sedation you will feel as if you are in a deep sleep-like state. Within seconds you'll feel relaxed and drowsy. Since IV dental sedation does not make you unconscious, a local anesthetic is often administered in conjunction. Often times we can complete multiple procedures in a single visit allowing you to avoid coming in for multiple appointments.
